BURKINA FASO

SANYA KA YIRIWA

The Sanya Ka Yiriwa project (in French “Water and Sanitation for Development”) is the result of a partnership between “Kynarou” associations (France) and “Let us save the Environment, Drinking Water and Sanitation for All” (Burkina Faso). It is a microproject supporting development in the field of Access to Drinking Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (ADWHS).

The project is being implemented in the rural communes of Satiri (localities of Sissa Diby and Satiri Goundi), Koundougou (localities of Wana and Camp Peulh of Koundougou) and in 36 villages attached to the Bobo Dioulasso municipality. Satiri and Koundougou are located in the province of Houet (Hauts-Bassins region) 42 km and 75 km respectively from the city of Bobo-Dioulasso.

The general objective of the project is to Contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the populations of the rural communes of Satiri (Sissa Diby, Satiri Goundi), Koundougou (Wana, Koundougou camp Peulh) and the 36 villages attached to the Bobo Dioulasso commune in terms of sustainable access to drinking water resources, hygiene and sanitation.

The specific objectives are as follows:

  • Improve rates and conditions of access to drinking water in the project area (at least 50% for the rate of access to drinking water)
  • Improve hygiene and sanitation conditions in project localities
  • Strengthen the capacities of municipal authorities and stakeholders involved in the Drinking Water, Hygiene and Sanitation sector and raise public awareness of good hygienic practices and the proper use of AEPHA facilities.

The total direct beneficiaries are estimated at around 3000 people, while nearly 100 000 others will indirectly benefit from the project’s spin-offs.

The project therefore consists essentially of three components: a “WASH infrastructures” component, a “capacity building of actors” component of the WASH sector and finally, an “awareness and promotion of family and community hygiene” component.

The project strategy is based on three key pillars: accountability, inclusion and “replication capacity”.

It will be implemented over a period of one (01) year according to an inclusive approach with a strong involvement of beneficiaries and local actors. This is a pilot project with the prospect of a gradual replication / extension of activities throughout the communes of Satiri and Koundougou.
